Jean-Claude (Gérard Depardieu) and Pierrot (Patrick Dewaere) are crooks. They're not experts, but they're competent enough to make their way through France by knocking over stores and lifting cars. They also have plenty of sexual conquests, including one with the young, attractive Marie-Ange (Miou-Miou), and the older ex-con, Jeanne (Jeanne Moreau). But the duo isn't simply suave; in addition to their crimes, they mistreat women without regret -- which could come back to haunt them.

French filmmaker Bertrand Blier didn't reinvent the wheel with 1974's Going Places, an adaptation (with cowriter Philippe Dumarçay) of his 1972 novel, but the film wouldn't have become an international sensation if he didn't push the envelope... Go to Full Review

Seen as a scampy sex comedy back in its day, this French film that made Gérard Depardieu a star may just be the most misogynistic film I've ever seen. Go to Full Review

Jim N @RT88410809 25m A defiant, bawdy and irreverent tale depicting the urban adventures of lusty delinquent outlaws, met by protest and disapproval by people whose puritanical morals have made them impotent, frigid and humourless. See more David Lee K @RT17066284 Aug 22 What does it look like when someone films almost two hours of juvenile delinquency, calls it “great cinema,” and then as a plus adds a ridiculous dose of awkward nudity? Watch (if you can endure it) Les Valseuses, and you will find out. "Actress" Miou-Miou floats through her role with all the emotional depth of a dead fish. We really have to hope that her performance was never meant to embody liberation, as the only thing a viewer can do is yawn over so much emptiness. As for Gerard Depardieu and Patrick Dewaere, they seem they’re auditioning for the world’s most insufferable road trip, exuding the charm of two guys you’d avoid at a bus stop. Their idea of charisma is clearly about being more unpleasant with every scene that passes. My advice? Don't waste your time watching this tedious atrocity. See more Alain E @AlainE 01/25/2025 Another anarchist presentation by Bertrand Blier. Life involves only having a good time, including lots of sex with women of every age. Also stealing cars, preferably Citroen DS. This time Depardieu and Dewaere are joined by Miou-Miou, Jean Moreau and a very young Isabelle Huppert. There is firearm use , which should make the feature popular with American audiences, including a very unique manner of suicide. On Tubi. See more Daniel B @observor 12/14/2024 Edgy and different, which is good enough. See more Aender S @RT01933294 04/11/2024 One of Bertrand Blier's best. The chemistry between Gérard Depardieu, Patrick Dewaere and Miou-Miou is just marvellous, great French classic. See more 12/25/2021 Two thugs is buzzing around town. Stealing cars, treating people badly and basically are up for no good. The assault and even rape a few women, feeling they are man's gift to women. The trouble goes on forever it seems as they move from city to city, making more enemies than friends. This is one of Gérard Depardieu and Isabelle Huppert's first films, not to mention the beautiful Miou-Miou. Nudity, blood, violence and pretty obscure stuff like breast sucking and sniffing up early teens panties are some ingredients, but in some way this film has true emotion and charm. It's well acted and it looks pretty nice. It does not lead to much, it's pretty repetitive - but the main characters to develop and that makes it interesting enough. Not a true classic in my book, but pretty solid. 6.5 out of 10 DS'es. See more Read all reviews
