The stars are gone. The planets have disappeared. Only individuals aboard space stations or starships were left to give the end a name -- The Quiet Rapture. After decades of decay and crumbling infrastructure, the Consolidation of Iron has made a discovery on a barren moon designated AT-5. An ocean of blood. Hoping to discover desperately needed resources they immediately launch an expedition. A submarine is crafted and a convict is welded inside. Due to the pressure and depth of the ocean the forward viewport has been encased in metal. If successful, they will earn their freedom. If not, another will follow. This will be the 13th expedition.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A claustrophobic video game adaptation that can veer into just plain stifling, Iron Lung is more interesting for its production than its story, but it conjures enough atmosphere to announce Mark Edward Fischbach as a filmmaker to watch.

Audience Says

A psychological descent that keeps hope out of reach, Iron Lung may be a slow burn, but its mood and atmosphere still leave a lasting scorch.

The movie is not quite the Cronenbergian nightmare the director wants it to be. Yet I found myself charmed by Iron Lung’s shagginess; I haven’t seen anything quite like it. Go to Full Review

Despite Fischbach’s arguably admirable intent and exertion, this low-budget sci-fi horror makes Event Horizon look like 2001: A Space Odyssey. Go to Full Review

Some sequences work better than others, but to his credit, Markiplier does deliver the intensity needed at the end, when Simon makes a desperate and impressively gruesome sacrifice. Go to Full Review

Now you may ask ... How are they making new oxygen? Doesn’t blood congeal or separate or something? how did they fine this moon without light? shut up nerd, Markilpier’s in a sub, now sit back and be scared. Go to Full Review

Required some homework afterwards as I was not familiar with the game it was based on, but the acting, atmosphere, and cinematography was so engaging, I enjoyed doing the research. Go to Full Review

The middle is a bit meandering, but for a first-time filmmaker who also wrote, starred in, and edited, this is an admirable first entry in what could be a bright career. Go to Full Review

Felicia N 1h I loved the cinematography and the environment. It's claustrophobic atmosphere lends itself really well with the characters plot. See more SARA S 4h I thought the movie was well paced. I was impressed that it kept the suspense and mystery throughout the film. Markeplier was much better of an actor than I expected. See more Jessica 5h AWESOMRI LOVED IT IT WAZ OS GOOD See more loven d @lovendestroy 9h If you're a fan of cosmic horror movies that don't spoon-feed you every little bit of information, you will love this movie. Those that don't understand it, I have to assume that they struggle with imagination. It's refreshing to actually have a movie like this that makes you think beyond just what was shown to you on screen, giving you questions that will echo around for long after the credits roll. While I've been a fan of Mark "Markiplier" Fischbach for a very long time, I wanted to go in as cold as possible to see if the movie stood well enough on its own. Afterwards, I watched Mark's play-throughs of Iron Lung on YT I realized he added so much more fullness to the lore and art of this game with this film and fully fleshed it out if I may say so. Take into account that this was a 100% independent release and the directing, producing, editing, and distributing was all done by Mark and his crew, it makes this even more of a phenomenon. Well done, Markiplier! Ya done good. See more Tucker J 14h Loved it! Great setting! Very Mysterious and creepy! Always kept me interested! Awesome gore and effects! Can't wait to see what else he does in the future! See more Joshua 15h Even with such a limited small set, and the performance of Mark Fischbach, the world David Szymanski has been truly fleshed out to a bloody degree. From the cinematography, the acting, and gorey drama, this will surely become a horror genre classic. Amazing job, and great usage of the camera flashing throughout the movie!
