It is refreshing to see a film focus so much on the complex intricacies of female relationships but that has nothing to do with sex, either between the young women themselves or with men, who barely feature here.

Sabrina Jaglom’s Jane is a bold take on the high school movie. Rather than a showcasing of high school politics at its pettiest, it is instead an eerie example of how trauma mixed with group politics can morph us into the worst versions of ourselves.

"Jane" se aleja considerablemente de ser una buena película en líneas generales, lastrada por una estructura muy irregular que por momentos da la sensación de ser una miniserie mal unida debido a un montaje poco orgánico. Sus dos primeros actos resultan aburridísimos; y aunque el tercero mejora y logra su cometido de incomodar, termina cayendo en la previsibilidad. Ese es precisamente su talón de Aquiles: la falta total de innovación, aparentando no tener nada relevante que decir más allá de sostener un suspenso que, irónicamente, constituye lo mejor de la propuesta. A pesar de sus múltiples tropiezos narrativos y de encajar en el molde genérico de un producto más de streaming con una fórmula ya vista cientos de veces, la cinta acierta en su lenguaje visual. Destaca el uso de la cámara para generar incomodidad mediante un abuso de primerísimos primeros planos y angulaciones donde la protagonista se empequeñece en el fondo, maximizando la tensión.

Sabrina Jaglom and Petsch Productions explore the touchy subject of teen suicide Madelaine Petsch of 'Riverdale' fame stars as Olivia next to Melissa Leo and Chloe Bailey A high school girl that's dealing with the recent death of her best friend, Jane Olivia wants to go to Stanford badly but is deferred sending her in a spiral Things get very uncomfortable when she finds out somebody is using an online profile using Jane's name and picture But who is it? Olivia is starting to see things or is she? This explores the complex intricacies of female relationships even if it isn't necessarily happy go lucky Petsch and Bailey are terrific and clearly the message is one to pay attention to It's very short too and there's dozens of unanswered questions and plot holes that don't get fulfilled but manages to show the desperation high school seniors go through to make their dreams
