Cinema S @cinema_sensei Aug 19 A surprisingly fresh entry in the franchise, with the Amish setting and new mythology giving it a unique identity. The mystery and atmosphere work well, especially in the final act, and the polished visuals are impressive. Completely disjointed mess of a movie whose laughable ending seemed like it got detached from another film. Is this what passes for scripts and screenplays these days? Therefore it is a fairly standard kids in peril movie. Some scares, some odd goings on which raise the hairs, but overall nothing special. I think the biggest issue was labeling it as part of the “Paranormal Activity” franchise. When I first watched it, I actually didn’t realize that it was part of that franchise, which is why I think I enjoyed it so much and why I think most people didn’t. People expect something very different from this movie when they sit down to watch a “Paranormal Activity” movie. However, on its own, I think this movie is great. The actors and actresses did a phenomenal job, I liked the Blair witch feel of the movie (having the camera man film most of it) and that I had NO idea where this show was going to lead. The ending was left open in a way that another movie could be done, but not in a way that made the movie feel unfinished. I definitely got some jump scares and a feeling of unease as things got weirder at the house they stayed in. Watch this movie with an open mind and I think you’ll enjoy it. I hope that the next movie that it's expected to come out next year is able to bring something new to this franchise. PS: I'll probably watch Tokyo Night just for fun somewhere in the future.
