The breathtaking locations, extreme-sports sequences, and stunt work provide genuine spectacle. Unfortunately, the weak script, shallow character development, and painfully wooden acting prevent the film from creating any real emotional connection. Luke Bracey lacks the charisma needed to carry Johnny Utah, while the relationship between Utah and Bodhi never develops the intensity that made the original memorable. The film also deviates too far from the original storyline, replacing its compelling surfing and crime dynamic with an increasingly unrealistic series of global stunts. What remains feels more like an expensive extreme-sports commercial than Point Break. The original had charisma, tension, and memorable characters. This version strips all of that away and replaces it with lifeless performances and extreme sports sequences that feel more like a highlight reel than an actual story. The characters are especially disappointing—there’s no chemistry, no depth, and no reason to care about anyone on screen. Johnny Utah feels bland, and Bodhi lacks the presence and philosophy that made him compelling in the original. The dialogue is forgettable, and the plot is barely held together by a series of increasingly ridiculous stunts. Visually, it’s polished, but that’s about the only positive. Style completely outweighs substance here. Overall, it’s a pointless remake that fails to justify its existence. 1/10.
