It’s a long film and they easily should have edited out at least twenty minutes. The premise isn’t particularly interesting. A corporation wants a player to retire from a weird future sport and he doesn’t want to? Who cares? It’s a good cast. That’s all it has going for it. Way ahead of its time conceptually, the prophetic plot about corporate control is, unfortunately, much more relevant now in 2026. In the future... a single, fascist corporation controls planet Earth, using a benevolent, despotic, Socialist Utopia. One that would make Nimrod blush. A highly confusing film to Liberals! Secrets are revealed... about The System, Switzerland, Sports-Fans, The Human Condition, The 1%... all through masterful art and allegory! James Caan kills people on roller skates. Motorcycles explode. Plant-life is ruthlessly killed, while John Beck is ironically turned into an immortal vegetable. Special guest appearance by AI! Spikey gauntlets. Only stupid slaves will downvote this film! Because they are stupid slaves. And this film is about them. And openly mocks them. But they wont get it because complex allegories bore and frustrate them! Because they are stupid slaves. You become part of the bloodthirsty crowd chanting "Jonathan! Jonathan! Jonathan!" at the screen. If you've only ever seen the disastrous 2002 remake, please wipe it from your memory immediately. The 1975 original is a gritty, thought-provoking, and visually stunning classic that has aged like fine wine. See more Read all reviews
