Alain E @AlainE 1d The reference to Carson McCullers is very apt. The movie is very well done, a tale of despair and dependency with uncertain resolution. The rhythm is very slow but never static. Information is provided sparsely. Who are these two people we meet when the movie opens? Married? Boyfriend and girlfriend? Something else? The name also is ambiguous. We are at a service station, but not of company Shell. Eventually we are told, but we never get an explanation. Photography also is very good, Maybe Shell will find what she needs at the end of the road, but first she will need to identify what she is seeking. See more 10/08/2014 Odd drama. A girl and her dad live in the middle of nowhere at a petrol station. Not much happens but it had quite an intense feel to it. Disturbing issues. It's slow, gaining texture from lingering shots of detail and landscape. The tale is grim but largely credible; it occurred to me after watching that possibly no one living in the Highlands would actually lead such an isolated life. A good effort.
