While accepting an award for her fashion career in Switzerland, accomplished Argentine artist and designer Lina (Isabel Aimé González Sola) is seized by the urge to plunge herself into an icy winter lake without warning. Returning to Buenos Aires after surviving the fall, Lina decides to tell no one of the incident. Left with a paralyzing fear of water and a growing sense of isolation, she finds it impossible to readjust to her former life as a wife, mother, and artist, distancing herself from her husband (Esteban Bigliardi) and once thriving career. Something in her has shifted -- quiet and invisible, it subtly unravels a past she thought she had left behind.

It is a strangely mesmerizing work, and up until almost the very end, its mysteries remain intact. Go to Full Review

Its bravura filmmaking is all in the service of letting us travel alongside Lina as she feels her way to self-understanding. Go to Full Review

Lina’s meeting with Amalia typifies the most successful moments of The Currents: episodes that provocatively raise questions rather than answer them, that parcel out just enough backstory so that the viewer can imagine Lina’s past... Go to Full Review

Some will find Mumenthaler's slowly paced movie trying, but a character who may not fully understand her inner life is made intriguing by a director whose imagery can reflect the deep and mysterious richness of lived moments. Go to Full Review

Jay S @Jaysope2003 2d The Currents is the kind of movie that slowly pulls you in and keeps you thinking even after it ends. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the way the story unfolded without rushing. The performances felt natural, and there were several moments that genuinely caught me by surprise. It may not be for everyone, but if you enjoy thoughtful storytelling and a bit of mystery, it's definitely worth watching. See more Umutoni G @RT01569678 4d Overall, The Currents is thoughtful, haunting, and emotionally rich. It won't appeal to everyone, especially those looking for a fast-paced story, but if you enjoy character-driven dramas that explore the complexities of the human mind, it's definitely worth watching. See more Giovanni P. @imgiovanni 5d This is a meticulously made film that asks us the question, what is life all about? What is real, and what really matters? One of the most poignant parts of the film is when Lina complains that a bunch of strangers gave her an award and throws it away, yet she is a estranged from her own mother, her husband, and her daughter as she pursue her career which is really just a place for her to hide as the current of her life continue to push her along without any sense of purpose or direction.
