Jacob L. @DerpyIsMLG Apr 1 Reviewed 5/15/2022 I'd never seen The Incredible Hulk prior to writing this review. And, to my surprise, it's not that bad. There are problems, for sure, but it's an enjoyable experience. My problems, however, lie in a few places. I feel like the beginning is very confusing, especially when it's needed to explain Bruce's origin story (even though they verbally describe it later). Another thing is the tone. It's definitely still in the phase where Marvel hadn't really found their homogeneous tone yet, as this movie is feels very different from other MCU films, like Iron Man especially. And, the relationship between Bruce and Betty is a bit underdeveloped as I said. So, with a these problems and the general feel of it, it's not the best. See more Bret M. @BretM-3 Mar 23 This is the 2nd entry in the MCU, and it’s definitely a step down from Iron Man for sure. Look, I don’t hate this movie, I do like it, but it is still one of the weaker MCU entries. Starting off with the negatives, I don’t really think Edward Norton is a great Bruce Banner. He plays the character as more of an action hero and less like the scientist we will later see from Mark Ruffalo. Liv Tyler is also an alright Betty Ross, but I don’t think I like her as Betty as much as I did Jennifer Connelly in Ang Lee’s Hulk. In that movie, it felt like she really served the plot, but in this movie she feels more like a generic love interest for our main hero. But I do love the introduction of William Hurt’s General Ross. And c’mon, it was great to see Lou Ferrigno.My other big complaint with this movie is how dark it is. Not necessarily the tone, but visually. A good portion of the movie takes place at night, and even the scenes that aren’t are dark. Overall, it’s still worth watching. The story is excellent and it has some brilliant moments, although the romance in it is massively over the top and pretty terrible. People often forget that it was only the second Marvel movie, and I think it would be viewed more positively if Hulk hadn’t been recast for Avengers.
