You are on the road for hours at a time and when you get there the place sucks. This film is that road trip. Don't watch its a crappier version of the Blair Witch Project with a cool preexisting idea, but done horribly. See more Bruce M @BruceMc Aug 26 Found-footage movies are inherently dumb, pandering to viewers who don't want to consider the absurdity of what they're viewing or where the footage originated. "Willow Creek" is the exception that proves the rule. The actors are likeable and have tremendous chemistry, and the interviews in the first half with the townspeople are believable. Some humor is present, too. A slight movie, but still enjoyable and certainly better than the crap "creators" put on YouTube, etc., as this was made by someone, Bobcat Goldthwaite, who has actually written and directed films. The location is visually appealing, offering some pretty scenery that contrasts nicely with the horror elements. The actors were good, mainly the woman, while the man comes across as somewhat immature throughout the film, whining mostly. While the film nods to The Blair Witch Project through some mirrored scenes, it fails to capture the same level of suspense. It takes a long while for things to start happening, and parts are really drawn out, like the tent sequence. This often drags down the pacing of the whole film and makes me want to just fast-forward through the whole thing. Additionally, the multiple musical styles used by the town folk felt unnecessary and added to the runtime without adding much to the story. Given the film’s shorter overall length, some scenes could have been trimmed to build tension more effectively. However, the reveal of the monsters was genuinely frightening and one of the film's highlights. Overall, while it's an engaging watch with some effective scares, it’s not something I’d revisit.
