One of the best-written critiques of American consumerism and the commodification of nearly every aspect of daily life. It's a sweetly packaged, delightful romp through the music industry accompanied by an incredible soundtrack of original rock songs.

Josie and the Pussycats is a mediocre movie that has a fun idea but never fully lives up to it. The style is colorful, the soundtrack is catchy, and the cast clearly gives it energy, but the story feels uneven and often too silly to really land. Some of the jokes work, and the movie has a quirky charm, but overall it is more memorable for its concept than for its execution. I think it had potential to be something better, yet it stays stuck in the middle with a lot of missed opportunities. I would give it a 4/10.

Josie and the Pussycat dolls was on the nose for all of it’s viewpoints on the music industry and aspiring artist that want to make it for a big break. Soon it will be 25 years since this movie released but you’re not missing a lot, even for a chick flick. Aspects of it aged better than expected with product placement and how subliminal messaging/marketing and advertising works pre-social media. It truly is as the cast called it " a time capsule into the early 2000’s."

★☆☆☆☆ — Painfully Loud Josie and the Pussycats is glitter, noise, and nonsense. The jokes flop, the plot evaporates, and by the end, you’ll wish the movie had nine lives… and used them all.
