K G @KatyG-S Mar 11 Possibly Practically Perfect in Every Way for optimistic families. It seems to me that movie adaptations about nannies are better than their original book counterparts - this, alongside "Mrs Doubtfire". What I can explain is that the nanny figures are not vilified & would be endearing & slightly firm. "Mrs Doubtfire" stated that love will prevail even through divorce (the book did not say that) & Mary Poppins is way sweeter than she was in the original book where she was too strict. BTW, authors should not be that rigid - FACT: the author did not like the movie adaptation. I love the character, Mary Poppins. She was captivating. In many examples: she made chores/tidying into a game for Jane & Michael Banks - magic brought the things in the nursery back in the places where they belong. The exciting parts was when Bert meets them & they magically transport into the cartoonist world of a tile painting until it rains. See more matthias s @Thescreenasvor Dec 14 Mary Poppins has been on my watchlist forever, literally, and with Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday it finally felt like the right time. The special effects are obviously dated, but honestly they’re still kind of mind-blowing. The animation blended with live action is way ahead of its time and still charming to look at. The whole movie is soaked in classic old-school Disney magic, catchy songs, bright colors, pure vibes. That said, I didn’t love it as much as I expected. The characters feel a bit flat, like… who are these people really? I never fully connected with them. Still, I totally get why this movie is beloved. It’s cozy, imaginative, and historically impressive. Not perfect for me, but undeniably charming and important overall classic.
