The Deb is hilarious. Filthy, fun, but most of all moving. Yet it’s also mocking real issues that a lot of its target audience (young women) passionately care about. Go to Full Review

It’s a wonderful mix of the raucous and the heartfelt and charges along at an exhilarating pace, punctuated by a series of setbacks and misunderstandings which are predictable but persuasive. Go to Full Review

“The Deb” may not be the most memorable movie musical of the year, but its heart and funny bone are in the right place. Go to Full Review

Tries to pack a little too much in but overcomes that with great music and brilliant performances. The Deb is one great alternative musical that shouldn't be missed. Go to Full Review

Pacy, full of laughs and crammed with top musical numbers and gags about digital culture...It’s a really accomplished, winning piece of entertainment, splendidly shot and edited, boasting a positive vibe and wonderfully fizzy performances. Go to Full Review

The movie’s undeniable strength comes from a clutch of catchy, witty and unrelentingly brassy songs. Go to Full Review

Walter W @RT71869229 2d "The Deb" marks Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut with a very raunchy Australian comedy musical. Charlotte MacInnes leads as "Maeve" a suspended student from an elite city private school who is sent to stay with her cousin "Taylah" (Natalie Abbott) in the drought-stricken town of Dunburn just before a traditional debutante ball. As the self proclaimed feminist voice of our generation this schoolgirl flashes more than her privilege at assembly and earned the hashtag cancelpig. The "FML" song opens the movie and sets the tone for the outrageous "The Deb". "The Deb" has been adapted from the 2022 musical with insanely catchy songs by Hannah Reilly and Meg Washington. Rebel reserves some of the best lines for her character "Janette". It will become a cult classic like "Adventures of Priscilla", "Muriel’s Wedding" and "Strictly Ballroom". "The Deb" ugly duckling and fish out of water tale is pitched perfectly to a female audience and even this ageing prolific movie reviewer. See more Tyra M @RT46772060 2d Beautiful and heartwarming. Incredibly talented cast. Beautiful and catchy songs by talented Meg Washington. And absolutely must see new Australian classic See more Ellen C @RT89826334 Apr 4 A sleeper hit & cult classic in the making. Ignore the surrounding drama - it’s worth a watch, not just to support some Australian talent, but also for the undeniable spirit at it’s core. With catchy songs, compelling leads, & a plot line that ticks along nicely - and some absolutely spot-on punchlines, it’ll keep you engaged between chuckles. While at times the movie did stray from the traditional Aussie comedy script - notably, the antagonist of the film wasn’t completely one dimensional - these deviations appear to be for the better. My only real critique is that there was a plot point unresolved - why the "spinster-esque" character missed her debutante ball. However, that didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment. The Dev was a fun watch, but the real highlight was the talented cast that gave the film its heart - I hope it brings joy to audiences for years to come.
