It’s a delicious set up and a wonderful tale, superbly told, of unfolding mystery involving bored suburbanites whose search for excitement leads them down risky paths. Go to Full Review
Vinson Cunningham The New Yorker Mar 20
A strange, surreal, surpassingly dark addition to Bateman’s œuvre. He’s cast well in the show -- I can’t imagine it working without his presence, reeking of ennui and buried impulses. Go to Full Review

Mr. Bateman is always a supremely watchable actor, but if there’s a standout in this exceptional cast it’s Mr. Harbour, who has sort of gone “Raging Bull” for his role as Floyd. Go to Full Review

...the series mostly takes place in the suburbs of St. Louis. This reinforces this idea that the suburbs aren't necessarily this safe and wholesome place where nothing bad, or weird, or even sexually adventurous happens. Go to Full Review

...as fiction, it rises above the rest, conceived as a simple yet highly effective device. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The show pokes at an uncomfortable cultural reality: the way our society often frames male libido as something urgent, unavoidable, biological in its authority. Men must pursue. Men must conquer. Men must be sexually validated at all times. Go to Full Review

Dave P @WaveDave 5h It’s somewhat dark and the subject matter can be shocking, but you will laugh out loud unexpectedly every episode even though it is not a comedy. Very witty writing. Great characters. Best series I have seen in a while. See more Austin G. @RT86860104 5h Solid murder mystery introduction got me hooked, but the rest of the show dragged on with inappropriate odd-sexual references between two men with a stronger-than-brothers friendship. While the plot, motive, and finale truth to the murder is unveiled at the verrrrrrry end. See more Dawn R @RT46142634 5h I mostly enjoyed even if I found some aspects cringe-worthy and the ending devastating. But here is my beef. I grew up in StL. I read that it wasn’t filmed there for financial reasons. OK, fair enough. But come on, there are some glaring errors obvious I would think even to those not from "the Lou." First off, the TV station where Clark works starts with a W. Wrong! Stations west of the Mississippi River start with K. Also there are no Albertson’s grocery stores in StLouis so the scene where Carol’s son spills all the milk on purpose could have been sooo much better simply if it happened at a Dierberg’s or a Schnucks! Also it would have been totally kitsch for them to have had their little hotel romps at the Coral Court motel even though it closed in the 90s bc well that is exactly what people went there for at the end! As far as the Kevin Kline pool, while it doesn’t exist at least the creator did ask the inter-webs about a famous person who is from the city. Oh and no to Jamba Juice! See more Andrew S @Defaulttrauma 14h Absolutely sick to death of queer baiting shows, and knowingly using queer themes to bring in an audience for a sh*t ending anyway. Yes I see the mid life crisis vibes about it all and the weird sexual moments but it truly just pissed me off to no end. Yes there were funny moments, heart felt moments. But honestly after the fourth episode, I had it on in the background while I went on my phone to answer my emails. Don’t waste your time. These actors have much better shows and movies you can watch. See more Charlotte S @RT33812180 1d A beautiful balance of genres: as threatening and tense as it is sincere. The characters and motives may at times feel hyperbolic, even pretentious, but it overall compliments with the oblique realism of the plot. I thoroughly enjoyed the series - and while I don’t think I would rewatch it - this is far from a criticism. It is intense, sad, touching, and real in a way that can be uncomfortable. The acting was also exceptional, especially from Jason Bateman. Highly recommended. See more Kent L. @RT47318221 1d Great until the finale. See more Read all reviews
