So besotted with its own heartbreak it forgets to sell the romantic fantasy that would make it worthwhile in the first place, it mainly serves to confirm that recapturing that The Summer I Turned Pretty magic is easier said than done. Go to Full Review

One can see the attraction of the story, especially for consumers of young-adult fiction. It offers eternal love, betrayal, regret and redemption, in earnest if not always logical fashion. It also takes the mature tack. Go to Full Review

There are no huge surprises and several gifted actors seem to be locked in an interminable WWE cage match with a script that requires them to say things that no human should ever be required to utter. But oh, the lake! Go to Full Review

There’s nothing revolutionary or even unique about Every Year After. But the cast is charming enough and the setting is pictureseque enough to make the show a pleasant distraction for fans of romantic dramas. Go to Full Review

Malanie S. @Malanie 3h OBSESSED. Yes, I read the book, and yes, they changed things. A lot of things. But honestly? I loved it anyway. The show keeps the emotional heart of Every Summer After while adding its own spin. Some scenes and character moments were different from what I pictured while reading, but the chemistry, nostalgia, and summer-lake atmosphere were everything I hoped for. The overall vibe of the show was beautiful—romantic, emotional, and full of that bittersweet feeling that made me love the book in the first place. The scenery was stunning, the casting worked for me, and I found myself binge-watching every episode. If you’re expecting a page-for-page adaptation, be prepared for changes. But if you’re looking for a heartfelt summer romance that captures the spirit of the story, this is absolutely worth watching. As a fan of the book, I was hooked from start to finish!! See more J M @JustMyOpinion1 4h If the goal was to portray a toxic relationship cycle, they nailed it. I went in expecting a love story, but instead watched a man have all the control and power with no consequences, and a relationship that sent her life into a downward spiral. She spends the whole series miserable, apologizing and suffering because of a relationship she had very little control over. The show moves at a snails pace and the flashbacks are confusing at times. I don't blame the actors as they portrayed the script they were given, but I don't like the story as I felt the creators wanted us to cheer for this codependent unhealthy behavior. See more Christie P @ilttv 5h This was so bad. Yes I did read the book and even in separating it from the book and taking it as its own animal, it was so bad. The "are we, aren’t we" back and forth actually became unclear and confusing. They changed the flashback characters to the current actors and that became even more confusing (Charlie you’re smoking but you’re 30+ no matter how you style your hair). My favorite characters were Jordie & Chantal. Every other character was annoying and unlikeable. I have to go back and watch a comfort show to wash the ick out now. All that being said I really hope they get green-lit for a second season and do Charlie’s story justice since they butchered Sam’s & Percy’s. See more Sarah T @RT65847599 7h Wait! I’m serious having déjà vu. Didn’t I already watch this show? Except the acting was better and the trope wasn’t running on fumes? I gave it the benefit of the doubt. I watched two episodes, with my phone in the other room mind you, and that was being generous. Not returning to this snooze fest where the characters always look like they’re on the verge of tears. 2/10 See more Karla S @RT74157453 21h Ignore the haters, addicting show with a beautiful setting and fun characters! See more Amanda M @RT87555172 22h This book was one of my all time favorites and this show missed the mark BIG. Where was the nostalgia, heart pangs, chemistry? I’m so disappointed, I had high hopes and this fell so flat. See more Read all reviews
